Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 27, 2026
Matterhorn Travel LLC, a California limited liability company (“Matterhorn,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), has prepared this Privacy Policy to explain what personal information we collect through trymatterhorn.com (the “Site”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights and choices you have.
This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect through the Site, which currently functions as a marketing website with a waitlist, a referral mechanic, and editorial content. Matterhorn is a pre-launch iOS application. There is no app, no user account, and no payment system at this time. When we launch the Matterhorn app, we will update or supplement this Privacy Policy and notify waitlist subscribers of material changes.
By using the Site or joining the waitlist, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1What We Collect
We try to collect as little personal information as possible. Today, the Site collects only the following:
Information you provide when joining the waitlist:
- The email address you submit.
- A referral code, if you arrived via someone else's referral link.
Information collected automatically:
- A coarse geographic location (country, region, and city) derived from your IP address by our network provider, Cloudflare. We do not collect or store your precise location, GPS coordinates, or your raw IP address beyond what Cloudflare processes for routing and security.
- The date and time you signed up for the waitlist.
- Aggregate, non-identifying page-view counts for the Site. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, marketing pixels, or fingerprinting tools.
Information you send us directly: If you email us, we will have whatever information you choose to include in that email.
We do not collect names, phone numbers, payment information, government identifiers, biometric data, precise location, contacts, or any other category of sensitive personal information through the Site.
2How We Use Your Information
We use the information above only for the following purposes:
- To operate the waitlist. Sending you a confirmation that you joined, ordering the queue, and applying referral credits.
- To send you updates about Matterhorn. Periodic “What's New” emails about our progress, features, and launch timeline. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- To run the referral mechanic. Matching referrals to referrers and adjusting queue positions.
- To protect the Site. Detecting and preventing fraud, automated abuse (bots, scrapers, fake signups), and security incidents.
- To respond to you. If you email us, we use your message to reply.
- To comply with the law. Including responding to lawful requests from government authorities and enforcing our Terms of Service.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making with legal effects, or any purpose not listed above.
3Legal Bases for Processing (EU / UK Visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar laws, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- Consent. When you join the waitlist, you consent to receiving the confirmation email and the “What's New” newsletter. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us; withdrawal does not affect processing done before the withdrawal.
- Legitimate interests. For coarse geolocation (network security, fraud prevention, routing), aggregate page-view counts (understanding general Site usage), and protecting the Site. We have determined these uses do not override your privacy interests, but you may object — see Section 7.
- Legal obligation. Where we need to process information to comply with applicable law.
4Who We Share Information With
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
Service providers we use to run the Site:
- Resend (United States) — sends our transactional confirmation emails and the “What's New” newsletter. Resend processes your email address on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
- Cloudflare (United States) — provides our network, security, and IP-derived geolocation. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata as part of providing these services.
- Our website host and infrastructure providers — process Site requests as needed to deliver pages to you.
Each of these providers is contractually bound to use your information only to provide services to us.
Legal and safety disclosures. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to (a) comply with a legal obligation, court order, or government request, (b) enforce our Terms of Service, (c) protect the safety, rights, or property of Matterhorn, our users, or the public, or (d) detect or prevent fraud or security incidents.
Business transfers. If Matterhorn is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require any successor to honor this Privacy Policy or notify you of material changes.
5International Data Transfers
Matterhorn is based in the United States, and our service providers (including Resend and Cloudflare) primarily process data in the United States. If you are accessing the Site from the EEA, the UK, or another jurisdiction outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those in your country.
Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK equivalent) with our service providers. You may request more information about these safeguards by contacting us.
6How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy:
- Waitlist email and signup data: Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until we determine the waitlist is no longer active (for example, after Matterhorn launches and the waitlist is migrated or retired).
- Referral data: For the life of the waitlist, so referrals can be tracked and credited.
- Aggregate page-view counts: Indefinitely, since this data does not identify you.
- Emails you send us: As long as needed to respond and for our records, typically no more than two years.
When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
7Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights. We honor these rights for all users regardless of location, to the extent reasonably possible.
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Deletion: Ask us to delete your information. We will do so unless we are required to keep it by law.
- Withdraw consent: Unsubscribe from emails at any time, or ask us to stop processing your information based on consent.
- Object: Object to our processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: Receive your information in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Complaint: If you are in the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction with a data protection authority, you have the right to complain to your local regulator. We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@trymatterhorn.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally 30–45 days).
Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, gives you the rights listed above plus:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you, including the categories and specific pieces.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is nothing to opt out of, but we state this affirmatively as required by California law.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under the CPRA.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
The categories of personal information we collect, the purposes, and the recipients are all described above in Sections 1, 2, and 4.
To exercise your California rights, email us at hello@trymatterhorn.com with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line. You may also designate an authorized agent to act on your behalf; we may require written authorization and identity verification.
8Cookies and Tracking
We use only essential cookies necessary to operate the Site (for example, to remember whether you have already joined the waitlist). We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics cookies, social media tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking technologies.
If you would prefer to block cookies, you can configure your browser to do so. Most parts of the Site will continue to work normally.
9Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are in a jurisdiction with a higher digital consent age (such as 16 in parts of the EU), the same applies at that higher age unless we have parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please email us at hello@trymatterhorn.com and we will delete it.
10Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. This includes limiting access to information to people who need it, requiring our service providers to maintain industry-standard security, and using encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the Site.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that affects you, we will notify you and applicable regulators as required by law.
11Links to Other Websites
The Site may link to other websites, including social media platforms, that we do not operate. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Please review their privacy policies before providing them with personal information.
12Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top. If we make material changes — for example, changes to what we collect or how we use it — we will notify waitlist subscribers by email and post a prominent notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
